Significant National Weather
West
Coastal rain and interior snow will occur from the Pacific Northwest to portions of the northern intermountain region. Snowfall totals in the Colorado Rockies and northeast High Plains could near or exceed one foot. Snow showers are forecast across portions of New Mexico. Rain will move across into portions of California, Oregon, and Washington tomorrow as a new Pacific storm moves toward the West Coast.
MidwestÂ*
Snow is forecast for areas west of the Mississippi, with the heaviest accumulations across portions of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri. Eastern and northern Missouri can expect 4-8 inches of snow while 2-5 inches is forecast for the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.
SouthÂ*
Winter Storm Warnings, Ice Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories, Flood Warnings and Flood Advisories are in effect across much the South. The latest advisories are available on the National Weather Service website at www.weather.gov/ (http://www.weather.gov/). Eastern Tennessee to central Georgia may see 4 to 6 inches of snow. Locally heavy snow over central and western Carolinas as well as northern Alabama and Georgia will change over to freezing rain. Ice Storm Warnings are in effect for much of central Alabama and portions of southeastern Mississippi.
Northeast
The storm in the South will move north into the Mid-Atlantic by Tuesday and into New England by Wednesday morning. By Tuesday night, two separate winter storms will move from the Midwest and Southeast, merge and intensify. The National Weather Service declared a Winter Storm Watch for the New York Metropolitan area for Tuesday and Wednesday and is forecasting 6-12 inches of snow with higher amounts possible. The Governors of Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, declared States of Emergency. South Carolina closed all state offices. FEMA Regions IV and VI are monitoring at a Watch/Steady State.
