Significant National Weather
West
A cold front moving across the Intermountain West will produce high-elevation snow and valley rain over the next couple of days.Â* Widespread precipitation is expected across portions of California throughout the remainder of the week. Strong winds of 30-45 mph with gusts in excess of 65 mph are possible in portions of the Rockies throughout the day. Red Flag Warnings are in effect through tonight for portions of New Mexico and Colorado due to the strong winds and low humidity.
Midwest
A passing cold front is expected to produce light to moderate snow across the Northern Plains.Â* Strong winds of 30-45 mph and gusts to 60 mph are possible in portions of the Upper Midwest through midday. Red Flag Warnings remain in effect through tonight for portions of Kansas because of strong winds and low humidity.Â*Â*Â*
Northeast
Dry and mild conditions are expected across most of the region. Warmer temperatures may produce snowmelt flooding along rivers and streams in portions of New York. Small accumulations of freezing rain are possible over portions of northern Maine on Friday.
South
Moisture from the Gulf will provide warmth for most of the region today. Red Flag Warnings remain in effect through tonight for portions of Texas, Oklahoma and the Florida Panhandle because of strong winds and low humidity.Â*Â*(National Weather Service, Hydro meteorological Prediction Center, and various media sources)
Virginia Wildfires: Update
Â*The 760-acre fire in the Jefferson National Forest Fire has been renamed the CC Fire and is 75 percent contained with full containment expected by Friday. Three homes and eight outbuildings were damaged. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. There are no requests for FEMA assistance.Â* (FEMA Region III)Â*
