Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

Northeast
A combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely across much of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine today. Over portions of Upstate New York and central and western Pennsylvania, several inches of snow are expected as early rain showers gradually turn to snow. East of Lakes Erie and Ontario, significant lake-effect snows are expected. High temperatures Friday will range from the 30s in Upstate New York and Northern New England to the mid 50s across the Mid-Atlantic region.
South
Rain showers are expected today along the southern Atlantic coast from the Carolinas to Georgia and over the northern half of the Florida Peninsula. Strong winds and low relative humidity across southern Texas today will contribute to an elevated fire weather threat.
Midwest
Parts of northern Michigan will see several inches of lake effect snow form off Lake Superior but most of the Midwest and Northern Plains will be dominated by high pressure. High temperatures will range from the 20s in the northern Plains and northern Great Lakes and the middle 50s over the southern Plains.
West
A Pacific storm will advance southward along the West coast towards central California by Saturday. The system will produce coastal rain and higher elevation snow from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies then move into northern California.
