Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)
Significant National Weather Northeast Lake-effect snow showers continue south and southeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario, bringing several inches of additional snow accumulation but start to diminish Thursday night. Scattered snow showers are forecast for northern New England. A regional winter storm is expected this weekend from Pennsylvania northward. The storm will be followed by very cold air, strong winds and the return of lake-effect snow in some some areas. South Brief snow showers are possible in a few areas from Mississippi to Georgia, and possibly parts of the Florida Panhandle. Scattered showers are forecast for the east coast of Florida. Midwest Light snowfall is forecast from eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin into the northern Great Lakes with frigid temperatures expected for the Northern Tier. A wintry mix will move over the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley this weekend, followed by a return to much colder temperatures, gusty winds and more lake-effect snow. West Another system moving along the Pacific Northwest Coast is expected to deliver light rain, with snow in the higher elevations, from Washington to central California. Parts of western Washington and Oregon are expected to receive over an inch of rain while the Washington Cascades could see up to two feet of snow. Snow will also continue father inland from the northern to central Rockies as well as portions of the northern intermountain region. High winds are forecast for parts of western and northern Texas today.
