Significant National Weather

West
A storm system off the Pacific Northwest will continue to produce heavy rain and high elevation snow over western Washington and the northern Intermountain West from Idaho to western Montana through Friday. Parts of the Olympic Peninsula could see from 4 to 5 inches of rain from this system. Lower elevation rains are likely in the western portions of the Northern Plains with snow at the higher elevations of the Northern Cascades and Rockies.

Upper portions of the Northern Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley will see some light snow through Friday. Substantial lake-effect snow will fall south of Lake Superior and southeast of Lake Michigan in the state of Michigan.
South
Showers are possible along coastal areas of Virginia and North Carolina; however, the storms are not expected to become severe. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to precede a cold front dropping south across Florida today.
NortheastÂ*
Lake effect snow continues southeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario. In the higher elevations of the Appalachians, down to Tennessee and the Carolinas, snow accumulations could reach several inches. Chilly temperatures and scattered snow showers will expand from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic today through Friday. Temperature highs will be in the low to mid 20s from western New York to northern New England.Â*
