Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)
Significant National Weather: West Light rain is expected over the Pacific Maritimes. Rain and mountain snow continue in Southern California, parts of the Great Basin and the Southwest. Rain is expected in the lower elevations with heavy snow accumulations of over two feet of new snow forecast for the Central and Southern Rockies today and tomorrow. Midwest A small area of mixed precipitation will fall over portions of the Central and Northern Plains today in the form of freezing rain and snow. Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the Southern and Central Plains and expand into parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley, delivering a winter mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain today that will move eastward into portions of the Great Lakes region by Wednesday. Freezing Rain Advisories remain in effect through this afternoon for Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. South Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through the week for Texas and the Southern Plains. Light precipitation over Florida will end this evening, and the remainder of the region is expected to be dry with warmer temperatures.
