Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

SouthÂ*
Scattered showers are possible during the next few days over southern and southeastern Florida and far southern Texas. Below freezing temperatures are forecast across portions of the Gulf Coast.
NortheastÂ*
A weather system that produced widespread, heavy precipitation from the lower Mississippi Valley into the Northeast over the past few days is rapidly winding down this morning. The associated surface low will be pushing quickly northeastward from the New England coast to eastern Canada this morning. In the wake of this system, much drier and colder temperatures will cover a large portion of the nation from the Plains to the Eastern U.S.
MidwestÂ*Â*
Much drier and colder temperatures will dominate a large portion of the nation from the Plains eastward into the eastern U.S. Light snows are possible Thursday into Friday from the lee of the Central Rockies eastward into the Central Plains, Midwest and toward the eastern Great Lakes. The coldest temperatures over the next few days will be centered over the Northern to Central Plains and into the Upper Mississippi Valley and upper Great Lakes. Up to 6 inches of lake effect snow forecast for northern Michigan.
WestÂ*Â*
Milder weather is expected west of the Rockies across the Great Basin and to the West Coast. No precipitation is expected west of the Rockies until late Saturday when a frontal boundary approaching the Pacific Northwest may bring showers to northwestern Washington state. Fog and low clouds persist in the Pacific Northwest, with some freezing fog possible on elevated surfaces this morning. The Pacific Northwest will experience highs in the 30s and temperatures from 10 to 20 degrees in the Northern Rockies.
