Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

South
Severe thunderstorms with the threat of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes are possible across southern Alabama, Georgia, northern Florida, and the Carolinas. Rainfall amounts from Arkansas to the Carolinas could exceed one inch.
Northeast
Heavy rainstorms will move northward across the Mid-Atlantic and New York and into New England and produce one to two inches of rain and wind gusts from 30 to 40 mph.
Midwest
Heavy rains will exceed one inch in Kentucky, southeast Indiana and Ohio. Rain showers and snow flurries are possible across northern Michigan to Iowa. A high Plains storm will bring snow and rain to the western Dakotas and western Nebraska.
West
Some areas may experience near blizzard conditions. Over a foot of snow is expected in the higher elevations of Montana and the mountains of Utah and Colorado and lower elevations could receive up to 6 inches. The storm will include 60 to 75mph wind gusts from interior Washington to Montana, Wyoming, and northern Colorado.

Minnesota leads all states for number of tornadoes in 2010

So far this year, 122 twisters have been reported in Minnesota, breaking the previous state record of 74 confirmed tornados in 2001. The state with the next highest amount is Texas but their amounts lag far behind with only 87 tornadoes thus far in 2010.

Tropical Weather Outlook

Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico
A broad area of low pressure located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea remains minimal today. Development, if any, will be slow and there is a low chance, near 20 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
Central, Eastern, and Western Pacific
Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.

Earthquake Activity

On November 15, 2010, at 1:24 p.m. EST, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.4 miles, 3 miles NNE from Moose Pass, AK (47 miles SSE Anchorage). There were no reports of damage or injury.
