Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)
Significant National Weather: West: Rain, mountain snow, and wind will continue in the Pacific Northwest and move into the Northern and Central Plains today.Â* Snow is forecast at higher elevations measuring up to 4 inches in portions of the Cascades and up to 8 inches in parts of the Northern and Central Rockies.Â* Gusty winds of up to 60 mph are expected and will create blowing snow conditions.Â* Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the Desert Southwest into the Southern Plains.Â* Highs will range from the 20s in the Pacific Northwest to 70s in the Desert Southwest. Midwest: Dry conditions are forecast today.Â* Gusty winds will increase from the Central Plains to the Great Lakes with gusts up to 30 mph.Â* Two upper level systems, one from the north and one from the south are forecast to merge tonight over the Northern and Central Plains as they move eastward, bringing a cold front that will reach the Mississippi Valley by tomorrow evening.Â* Colder air from Canada will move in behind this cold front, reaching the Central and Northern Plains tomorrow.Â* Highs will reach the 40s from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes to 60s in the Ohio Valley. South: Dry weather is expected to continue across most of the region.Â* Showers are forecast to develop in the Southern Plains.Â* Sunshine and warm temperatures forecast for the Southeast with a mix of sun and clouds over Florida, thicker clouds likely near the Atlantic Coast.Â* Highs will be in the 60s across the South with 70s near the Gulf Coast and low 80s in Deep South Texas. Northeast: Sunny, mild and dry weather expected east of the Mississippi River through Saturday.Â* A cold front is forecast to move into the region tomorrow afternoon, eventually bringing unsettled weather on Sunday.Â* Highs today expected to range from the 40s and 50s in New England and 60s in the Mid-Atlantic region. Eastern Pacific Tropical Depression Kenneth At 4:00 a.m. EST, the center of Tropical Depression Kenneth was located about 1,155 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Kenneth is moving west near 14 mph. This general track is expected to continue through Saturday. The depression is forecast to become a remnant low in a day or sooner. Central/Western Pacific: No significant tropical cyclone activity.
