Significant National Weather

West
Winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect for much of the western United States. One to two feet of snow is forecast from Californiaâs northern coastal mountains eastward to Utah, Idaho, western Wyoming and Montana. Lower elevations of the Great Basin and the mountain valleys could also snow ranging from a few inches to a foot. The snow will bring gusty winds and produce blizzard conditions, the threat of avalanches, and below zero temperatures in the northern Rockies. Rain showers are possible throughout California in the lower elevations.
Midwest:
Snow showers are in the forecast over the Great Lakes. Snow is also expected across the western portions of Nebraska and the Dakotas and low temperatures will range from the single digits to below zero. The rest of the region will be dry today.
Northeast:
A cold front will pass across the region today producing up to an inch of rain in some areas before moving off the eastern seaboard tonight.
South:
The tail end of the cold front discussed above will extend from the southern Appalachians to Texas. Showers and a few thunderstorms will extend from the Carolinas to Texas and some areas could also see up to an inch of precipitation.

Midwest Severe Weather Outbreak

On the afternoon and evening of November 22, 2010, a cold front produced severe weather across the Midwest. There are preliminary reports that eight tornados touched down in Wisconsin and Illinois. There were reports of damages, downed trees and power lines, and property damage. In Missouri, golf ball-size hail and 60 mph winds were reported from this storm system. There are no unmet needs or requests for assistance at this time. FEMA Region V, VI, and VII remain at Watch/Steady State (24/7).
