Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Missouri River Basin Flooding

Current situation
USACE will sustain mandatory low flow releases on four reservoirs in Kansas until Missouri River falls below flood stage. USACE continues to manage the release of water from multiple reservoirs. The current flow rates are as follows:
Fort Peck- 65,400 cfs; Maximum flow expected to continue at this rate.
Garrison- 138,700 cfs; 150,000 cfs by mid June
Oahe- 150,400 cfs; Maximum flow expected to continue at this rate.
Big Bend- 145,900 cfs; 150,000 cfs by mid June
Fort Randall- 139,200 cfs; 150,000 cfs by mid June
Gavins Point- 144,800 cfs; 150,000 cfs by mid-June
North Dakota
Voluntary evacuations remain in effect for portions of Burleigh, and Morton counties.
South Dakota
Voluntary evacuations are ongoing in Hughes and Stanley County (Pierre, Ft Pierre, and Dakota Dunes). Two shelters remain open with 18 occupants.
Montana
A FEMA Tribal Liaison remains deployed. One shelter is open with 45 occupants
NebraskaÂ*
Evacuation of residents in low lying areas continues in portions of 12 counties (approx 500 residents). Two shelters open with 4 occupants; shelter will serve communities in IA and NE.
Iowa
Hamburg Levee Breach
On June 13, another breach of Federal Levee L575 near Hamburg (Fremont County) occurred along Missouri River, south of previous 3 breaches. The breach is not repairable but Hesco barriers and earthen materials will bring secondary levee to an additional 3â of elevation. The breach is approximately 300 feet in length. A deliberate breach is being made several miles downstream of the new breach to help delay water from reaching Hamburg. Current estimates indicate the water will reach the temporary Ditch 6 levee sometime this morning. The temporary levee improvements to raise the final elevation to 919 are expected to be completed this evening. No evacuations have been issued but 600 residents voluntarily evacuated. There are 2 shelters open in Fremont County with 2 occupants and 2 on standby.
Missouri
Union Township Levee - 117V
The levee breached on June 13, 2011. This is a non-Federal levee, located approximately 4 miles southwest of Craig (Holt County); total acres protected: 1,500 acres. Levee District has intentionally breached the downstream end of the levee system to minimize additional damage, and to relieve pressure on the secondary levee that was recently constructed. Flooding will impact Holt County and the 13,000 acres it protects to include the Village of Big Lake (approx 150 homes) if flood waters are not contained. There are 5 shelters on standby in northwest Missouri.

Mississippi Valley Flooding

Current Situation
USACE continues monitoring water levels throughout the Mississippi River and Tributary System, providing flood fighting measures as needed. At the Bonnet Carre Spillway structure, USACE closed an additional 30 bays on June 14 for a total of 230/350 bays open currently. The current flow rate through the structure is 102,000 cfs. USACE is not closing the last bay at the Morganza Floodway. The last bay will remain open to assist in draining the forebay (area between the structure and the normal channel of the Mississippi River). Based on the current forecasts, USACE expects this bay to remain open into July. The current flow rate through the Morganza Floodway is 6,100 cfs.

Significant National Weather

Midwest
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across portions of the Ohio Valley and Central Plains today. Some storms may be severe, producing large hail, strong winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain across the Mid Mississippi Valley and the Upper Midwest may result in flash flooding this morning.
Northeast
A low pressure system will continue to move off the Northeast Coast today producing showers and thunderstorms along the U.S. East Coast through
Thursday morning.
West
Another low pressure system will continue to move through the Pacific Northwest today producing showers and thunderstorms from the Washington State Coast to the northern Rockies.
South
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across a large area from the Tennessee Valley to the Deep South. Some storms will be severe. Hot and dry conditions will lead to high fire danger across the
Florida panhandle on today.

Fire Activity
Arizona and New Mexico
Wallow FireÂ*(AZ: Apache, Navajo, Graham & Greenlee Counties; NM: Catron County)
The fire has consumed 469,407 acres and is 20% contained. Three Type 1 IMTs remain assigned to the fire, which remains entirely in Arizona. Approximately 2,714 homes, 473 commercial properties, and 1,216 outbuildings remain threatened. Thirty-two homes, 4 commercial properties and 36 outbuildings have been destroyed. Five homes and 1 outbuilding have been damaged. Seven injuries have been reported. Evacuations remain in effect in Sunrise, Greer, Blue River, Alpine, Nutrioso, and White Mtn. Acres. A pre-evacuation alert remains in effect for Greens Peak, Hidden Meadows Lodge and the surrounding areas.Â* Luna, NM (Catron County)Â*remains under a pre-evacuation alert. Power lines that supply 60% of the power to Tucson remain threatened. There are 4,734 personnel assigned to this fire.
Monument Fire - FEMA-2919-FM-AZ(Cochise County, AZ)
The fire is located within 5 miles of Sierra Vista (Pop. 3,700) and has consumed 4,500+ acres with 10% containment. Approximately 95 homes and 25 outbuildings are threatened; 2 outbuildings have been destroyed. Mandatory evacuations are in effect for residents in Ash Canyon, and Memorial (total pop. 150).
Track Fire - FEMA-2918-FM-NM (Colfax County, NM and CO)
The fire is burning off I25 at the Colorado/New Mexico border and has burned past Sugarite Canyon Park into Colorado, south of Starkville. The fire has consumed 24,000 acres with 5% containment. Seven structures have been destroyed; an unknown number are threatened. Evacuations are currently taking place in Raton, north I-25, north of County Road 72, Sugarite State Park and the Dillon Canyon area; a portion of Interstate 25 is closed. One shelter is open with occupants unknown. A Type II IMT has been requested. There are 346 personnel assigned to this fire.
Horseshoe 2 FireÂ*(Cochise County)
The fire has consumed 171,333 acres and is 60% contained.Â* One Type 1 IMT is assigned to the fire; full containment is expected around June 22. Nine residences and 14 structures were damaged or destroyed. Whitetail, West Turkey Creek, and Pinery Creek areas remain in evacuation status; Whitetail Canyon evacuations are expected to be lifted tomorrow. There are 1,400 personnel assigned to this fire.

The Arizona Governor declared a State of Emergency on June 6, 2011. AZ has one shelter open with 28 occupants. Â*
Alaska
East Volkmar Fire
The fire is located approximately 25 miles east-northeast of Delta Junction and has consumed 58,050 acres with 16% containment. Three historical cabins and 88 outbuildings are threatened. A Type II IMAT is assigned. There are 394 personnel assigned to this fire
Hasting Fire
The fire is located on state land burning approximately 15 miles northwest of Fairbanks and has consumed 23,110 acres with 25% containment. Evacuation advisories were issued for the Hayes Creek Subdivision. There are 995 personnel assigned to this fire.
Colorado
Duckett Fire (Westcliffe, CO)
The fire has consumed 2,300 acres and is 5% contained. Several structures are threatened; 200 structures remain within 2 miles of the fire border. Evacuations remain in effect for the Eagle Peak Subdivision, Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp, and surrounding areas; 300+ residents (largely made up of Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp participants) are affected. Residences in the Brush Creek Subdivision have been notified of a pre-evacuation. A Type II IMT is assigned to this fire. There are 310 people assigned to this fire.
Georgia
Racepond Fire (Charlton County) -Â*FMAG approved June 15, 2011
The fire has consumed 7,850 acres with 50% or less containment.Â* Fifty-five residences are threatened and mandatory evacuations are in effect; 150+ residents are affected).Â* The fire is also threatening the timber industry, which is the largest employer in the county as well as utility lines, the CSX railway, and four cell/microwave relay towers.
