Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather:

West:
Moist onshore flow will continue to produce heavy coastal rain and mountain snows across the Northwestern U.S. An additional two to four inches of rain is possible along the Oregon coastal ranges and lower elevations of the Cascades with one to two feet of snow in the higher terrain. Avalanche danger is high in some mountain areas. Windy conditions are forecast through tonight from Montana and Wyoming into the High Plains. High pressure will build into the Northwest for the weekend for a short reprieve from the recent wet period.
Midwest:
Weak surface lows will track from the Northern Plains across the Midwest and into the Great Lakes. Expect a wintry mix with light rain to the south and snow with areas of heavy snow to the north. The system currently producing rain and snow over the Great Lakes and the Ohio valley will move into the Northeast tonight. Temperatures for much of the region will be mild, as much as 20 degrees above average.
South:
Under high pressure the region will be generally dry and colder than normal.
Northeast:
Windy conditions in New England should taper off this morning, but below zero wind chills are still possible in parts of Northern New England and northern New York. High temperatures will range from 10 in northern Maine to the 50 in West Virginia. The system moving out of the Great Lakes will bring snow to western New York and Pennsylvania today, spreading into New England tonight. This evening, the snow will change to rain in parts of western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Space Weather:

No space weather storms were observed for the past 24 hours. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are likely. Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level are expected.

Virginia
Amendment #4 to FEMA-4042-DR-VA Effective December 28, 2011, the major disaster declaration for the State of Virginia is amended to include Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, and Orange Counties for Individual Assistance and Spotsylvania County and the City of Fredericksburg for Individual Assistance (already designated for Public Assistance). Culpeper and Northampton Counties for Public Assistance.
