Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)
Significant National Weather: West: Light to moderate rain and mountain snow is expected to develop along coastal areas in the Pacific Northwest this morning, but the precipitation is expected to diminish overnight. The remainder of the region will be dry today under high pressure. Midwest: The storm system over the Great Lakes will slowly move into eastern Canada this evening. Cold, windy conditions and moderate to heavy lake-effect snow will continue in northern portions of Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, and in western Indiana. Total snow accumulations of 4-8 inches are expected, with up to a foot of snow possible in some areas. South: Colder temperatures will spread across much of the South tonight. The combination of wind and cold temperatures will produce wind chills in the upper teens and 20s by Tuesday morning.Â* Strong winds and low relative humidity will increase the risk of fire danger across northern Alabama; Red Flag Warnings are in effect through this evening. Northeast: Snow will develop in parts of the northern and central Appalachians and continue through Tuesday. Accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are possible across portions of Pennsylvania.
