Midwest
Severe thunderstorms, producing possible tornadoes, are forecast today across Wisconsin, northern Illinois, southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, southeast South Dakota, Nebraska and northern Kansas. Rain accumulations may reach up to 3 inches from central Minnesota to southeast Nebraska and northern Missouri. Midweek, the same cold front will extend from the eastern Great Lakes to Kansas. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected for the Ohio Valley, Missouri and Kansas.
WestÂ*
A cold front will stall from the Wyoming-Colorado border to Nevada while a new storm approaches the Pacific Northwest by this evening. Rain and thunderstorms will continue to develop across the Northwest with possible accumulations of up to an inch. The new storm will move into Washington and Oregon midweek, producing 1 to 2 inches of rain from the Cascades westward.
NortheastÂ*
The cold front that moved through the Midwest this weekend will move through the Northeast today. Thunderstorms will develop across the region, with total accumulations exceeding 1 inch in some locations. The cold front will move offshore by Wednesday.
SouthÂ*
Scattered thunderstorms will continue across the Southeast and along the northern Gulf Coast. Rainfall accumulations could exceed 1 inch in a few locations. Mississippi Canyon 252 Update

FEMA is supporting the operation by providing personnel to the National Integration Center and additional Logistics and External Affairs support to the Federal On-Scene Coordinator. FEMA is also leading the Social Services and Small Business Interagency Working Group (Claims and Benefits).
The Oil spill flow rate continues between 12 to 19 thousand barrels per day, with an alternate method indicating up to 25 thousand barrels per day. The relief well, booming/skimming, air operations and in situ burning (ISBs) continues.
The Lower Marine Riser Pipe (LMRP) Top Cat is scheduled for installation. The riser and associated piping are being cleared from the well; cutting may take up to 48 hours. Once all eternal lines are removed, removal of the actual riser will begin. Once the riser pipe is cut, there will be an increased uncontained product flow for 3 to 4 days. The new Top Cap is a more robust design with additional weight added for stability.
Over 126 miles of Louisiana shoreline are impacted including thirty-one miles of heavily impacted marsh land. The closed commercial/recreational fishery area was expanded to 60,683 square miles.Â*Â*(Deepwater Horizon JIC)Â*

Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) Update:
A submarine seamount eruption occurred between the Islands of Sarigan and Anatahan on May 28, 2010, reaching over 40,000 feet in altitude. The Governor of CNMI issued a Declaration of Emergency for the Northern Islands on May 28. Activity continues to decrease, prompting reduction of the Aviation Color Code to yellow. Flight observations reported clear visibility around the islands and volcanic ash fallout is nominal. A small group of scientists remain on Anatahan and Pagan Islands for research and observations. The EMO reports no immediate danger for residents of Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan, or the northern Islands of Marianas. There have been no requests for federal assistance.Â*

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 11:26 p.m. EDT on May 31, 40 miles south-southwestward of San Jose, Costa Rico. The depth was 18 miles. No injuries or damages were reported. No tsunami was generated.Â*Â*(USGS)
