Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

West:
A cold front will bring periods of heavy rain and wind to the Pacific Northwest with rainfall totals between 2-4 inches over the next few days and snow in the higher elevations. An area of high pressure over the Great Basin will keep the rest of the region dry.
Midwest:
Cool and dry weather is expected over most of the region due to a ridge of high pressure over the Great Lakes.
South:
Parts of the Gulf Coast could receive over four inches of precipitation by mid-week. Rain is forecast for the lower Mississippi Valley. The Texas Gulf Coast can expect numerous showers, thunderstorms and even severe thunderstorms. The Southeast will be dry except for showers over southern Florida.
Northeast:
The region can expect clear skies, colder than average temperatures, and northerly winds. Snow is expected in parts of northern New England.

Tropical Weather Outlook

Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico
Tropical Storm Tomas is located about 135 miles northeast of Curacao moving west near 14 mph and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected for the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph, with higher gusts and Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles from the center. Additional weakening is forecast over the next 24 hours, but re-strengthening could begin by late Tuesday.
Central, Eastern, and Western Pacific
Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.
