Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

Northeast:
A strong cold front will move across the East Coast today and produce heavy rain, up to three inches in some areas, from the Mid-Atlantic into New England. Mild south-to-southeast winds ahead of the front, severe weather and wind gusts from 40 to 60 mph are possible through the morning. Behind the front, diminishing rain will change to light snow across western New York, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
South:
The strong front moving eastward is forecast to bring severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and tornadoes to eastern North Carolina. Meanwhile, scattered thunderstorms will steadily shift southward as a cold front moves through the Florida Peninsula.
Midwest:
Moisture wrapping around the surface low will produce light to heavy snow over portions of the Great Lakes and become lake effect snow showers downwind through tomorrow. Light snow is also possible in parts of Ohio and Kentucky. Gusty winds will linger in the wake of the storm across the Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.
West:
A cold front will stall over the Pacific Northwest and produce light to heavy rain along the coasts of Washington, Oregon and northern California. Snowfall totals reaching up to eight inches are forecast from the Pacific Northwest to northern California to portions of the North and Central Rockies.

Severe Weather Outlook

On November 29-30, 2010, severe weather moved across the Southeast resulting in gusty winds, hail and tornado reports across Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and the Carolinas. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has reported homes and businesses damaged and widespread power outages caused by the severe weather. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency also reported damages to homes from high winds but no injuries or fatalities are reported. Local assessments continue but no FEMA assistance is requested at this time.

Earthquake Activity

On November 30, 2010, at 10:45 a.m. EST, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake occurred at a depth of 4.1 miles off the southern coast of Long Island, 79 miles south-southeast of Southampton, NY. No damages or injuries were reported.

On November 29, Amendment No. 2 was approved for Puerto Rico disaster response DR-1946 and makes four additional municipalities eligible for the Public Assistance Program.
