Significant National Weather

Â*Northeast
The ongoing storm in the Southeast is expected to develop into a significant winter storm from the central Appalachians to southern New England. A mix of rain and snow is expected this morning in eastern Virginia, the Delmarva Peninsula and southern New Jersey. By afternoon, the rain will change over to snow and become more widespread across the Mid Atlantic and into New England by this evening. A three to six hour burst of moderate to heavy snow, capable of producing six inches to one foot, will move from West Virginia up toward New England by mid-morning Thursday.
SouthÂ*
Lingering rain and some light snow are possible across portions of the Southeast today as the storm system moves up the East Coast. Thunderstorms are possible across south Florida and coastal North Carolina this morning. Along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, rain will turn to snow this evening and light accumulations are possible. Across portions of southern Georgia and northeastern Florida, a cold front will produce strong, sustained winds near 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
Midwest
Light snow is expected over the upper Great Lakes through Thursday. Light snow accumulations are forecast from Michigan and Indiana eastward to the Appalachians.
West
A few light snow showers are forecast for the Rockies. The Northern Plains will experience strong sustained winds through Thursday, up to 50 mph, with some gusts up to 70 mph.

Tropical Cyclone Wilma

At 8:00 p.m. EST, Jan 25 Tropical Cyclone Wilma was located 356 mi SSE of Fiji moving SW at 19.5 mph. The storm continues to track WSW and is no longer a threat to U.S. mainland or territories. There were no reported injuries from the storm as it passed over American Samoa. Power and water was restored to all areas but a Boil Water Advisory remains in effect. There are no requests for FEMA assistance.
