Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

West:Â*
A large area of high pressure over the Northern Rockies and Plains will keep most of the region dry. In Central California, strong upper level ridge of high pressure will result in near record high temperatures forecast to be 10-20 degrees above normal. In Southern California, a weak to moderate Santa Ana event will bring high temperatures and gusty winds to the mountains, foothills, and adjacent canyons.
Midwest:
A cold front will produce light rain over eastern Wisconsin and Michigan.
South:
A low pressure area over the Lower Mississippi Valley will merge with the front dropping out of the Midwest to produce rain, rain showers and thunderstorms over the region.
Northeast:
An area of high pressure will continue to bring cool, dry weather into the region. Rain associated with the low pressure area from the Southeast is forecast for the lower Mid-Atlantic region later today. (NOAA and media sources)
Tropical Weather Outlook

Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of MexicoÂ*
Tropical Depression Tomas is located about 335 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Tomas is expected to re-strengthen as it turns north-northeast during the next 48 hours. A Hurricane Watch is currently in effect for Jamaica and the storm is expected to pose a significant threat of heavy rainfall over Haiti and the Dominican Republic later in the week.
Central, Eastern, and Western Pacific
Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.
