Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

Northeast
Lake-effect snow accumulations may reach 1-3 inches, across northern New England and New York.
Temperatures will be in the teens and twenties from New England to Virginia. Snow will develop across portions of northern Virginia with 3-5 inches expected. Southern Virginia will experience freezing rain and sleet creating treacherous driving conditions.
Midwest
Lake-effect snow is forecast to diminish across the Great Lakes. Locally heavy snow accumulations are expected through this morning southeast of Lake Ontario. The Ohio and Mississippi Valleys will experience a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Temperatures in the teens and high twenties from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes regions.
South
A wintry mix will linger across portions of Kentucky and Tennessee. Significant freezing rain, icing, and snow is possible from Kentucky into the Central Appalachians. Much of North Carolina will see sleet and freezing rain early in the day.
West
Showers and mountain snow will affect portions of the Northwest today. An upper level disturbance will move into the Central and Southern Rockies bringing a mixture of rain and snow to the region.
Rain is forecast from New Mexico to Arizona with cooling temperatures. On Friday rain and mountain snow will begin to affect Central and Northern California. (NOAA’s National Weather Service, the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center and various media sources)
Severe Winter Weather - Kentucky

A Winter Storm is moving across the state with the expected duration of 16 hours. Possible rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow accumulations are forecast through Thursday night. Icing/treacherous driving conditions reported; road crews are treating roads across the state.
