Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather:

West:
A new front will begin to move onshore over the Pacific Northwest during the afternoon and early evening on Thanksgiving. Rain, mountain snow, and wind return to the Pacific Northwest by this evening. Gusty winds of up to 60 mph possible along the Coastal Pacific Northwest with over a foot of snow expected in higher elevations. Rain is forecasted as far south as Central California today. Rain and snow is possible in the Northern Rockies. Thunderstorms and mountain snow are forecasted for the Desert Southwest through Friday morning. Highs will range from the 20s in the higher elevations of the Cascades to around 80 in the deserts of southern Arizona.
Midwest:
High pressure over the Tennessee/Lower Mississippi Valleys will move eastward to the Southeast through Friday. Breezy and windy conditions are possible in the Central Plains today. Highs will range from the 40s in North Dakota and northern Minnesota to the 70s in the southwestern Kansas.
South:
Dry weather is expected across most of the region. However, showers are forecasted over the Western Southern Plains today. Scattered showers are possible across the Southern and Central Plains by Friday evening. Red Flag conditions are in effect parts of the Southern Plains today due to windy conditions and relatively low humilities. Highs will range from the 60s in northern Arkansas to the 80s in the Deep South.
Northeast:
A surface ridge building across the East Coast will bring fair weather over the region for the holiday weekend. Overnight lows will fall into the 30s with abundant sunshine by afternoon. Such conditions should also allow for sufficient snow melt across upper New England. Highs will range from the 30s in Northern New England to the upper 50s in the Mid-Atlantic and Central Appalachians.

A strong extra-tropical low with its associated fronts is moving toward the northeast and is approaching the Azores. This system has a low chance, near 0 percent, of becoming a subtropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
Eastern Pacific
Tropical Storm Kenneth
At 4:00 a.m. EST, the center of Tropical Storm Kenneth was located about 945 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Kenneth is moving west-northwest near 10 mph. A turn toward the west is expected later today. Continued weakening is expected during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center.
Central/Western Pacific:
No significant tropical cyclone activity.

Disaster Declaration Activity

New Mexico
The President has approved a Major Disaster Declaration FEMA-4047-DR-NM for the State of New Mexico for flooding that occurred from August 19-24, 2011. This declaration provides Public Assistance for Cibola and Sandoval Counties and the Pueblo of Acoma and the Pueblo of Santa Clara. All counties and Indian Tribes in the State of New Mexico are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The Federal Coordinating Officer (FCO) is Mark H. Armstrong of the National FCO Program.
