Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather:

South
Moderate to heavy rain is forecast across portions of Texas and into the Lower Mississippi to the Ohio Valley. Storms could become severe, with rainfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Flash flooding may occur in areas from east Texas to the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. Isolated rain showers are expected in portions of southeast Florida. More rain is anticipated Sunday night from central Texas through central Tennessee into early Monday.
West
Heavy snow will begin to develop over the Central and Southern Rockies. A wintry mix of rain and snow is possible in southern Colorado, eastern Arizona and New Mexico. Below normal temperatures are expected over much of the High Plains into the Rockies. The Santa Ana winds will diminish today in Southern California; however, the winds will begin again tonight. Gusts over 70 mph is possible in Californiaâs coastal mountain passes and canyons tonight and Monday morning. Critical fire weather conditions continue across portions of the Southern California Mountains and coastal areas.
Midwest
Rain and showers are expected from central Michigan, the Ohio Valley and the Tennessee Valley. Rainfall accumulations of over 1 inch are possible in southern Indiana, western Kentucky and southeast Missouri. Light snow is possible in Michigan, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. Additional snowfall of between 1 to 3 inches is expected in Michigan and North Dakota.
Northeast
Light rain is expected in western New York and western Pennsylvania; however, the rest of the region is forecast to be dry.Â*(NOAA, National Weather Service and media sources)Â*
High Wind Events - December 1-2, 2011

California
The Santa Ana winds are expected to diminish today, but moderate to strong winds are forecast to resume across Southern and Central California this evening and Monday. Communities in Southern, Central and Northern California continue to recover from the high wind event that occurred last week. Power restoration efforts have progressed; with an estimated 124,150 customers without power in the areas hardest hit by the extreme winds (down from peak outages of over 444,000). Full restoration is expected later today. Los Angeles County declared a local State of Emergency, and has begun initial damage estimates. The California Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Southern Regional EOC are activated at Duty Officer Level. FEMA Region IX remains at normal operations.
Utah
Strong winds lessened Saturday across Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber counties, but may resume this evening. Rocky Mountain Power reports 1,500 customers remain without service throughout the state, down from a peak of 54,000. Four ARC shelters remain open in Ogden, Layton, Centerville and Bountiful. One unconfirmed weather-related fatality and at least 20 injuries are being reported. Davis County declared a State of Emergency and requested State assistance. Davis County EOC is activated and the Utah EOC is monitoring. FEMA Region VIII remains at normal operations.
