Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

Northeast
Showers and thunderstorms are likely across much of the Mid-Atlantic States overnight, before a strong cold front pushes most of the rain out to sea this morning.
South
Very cold air is being driven across the Southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast today. Temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees below average across the region over the next few days.
Midwest
A strong low pressure system will produce moderate to heavy rain and strong gusty winds across the Ohio Valley and much of the Great Lakes. Rain and wind should slowly become less intense thereafter as the low pressure gradually weakens and slowly moves into Canada by Friday morning.
West
Rain, associated with a cold front, slowly approaching the Pacific Northwest is expected to be light and will slowly progress eastward into the northern Rockies by Friday morning. Otherwise, most of the Intermountain West will be rain free through Friday morning.
