Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather:

Northeast:
A storm system is moving through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, bringing periods of heavy rain, strong winds, and snow. A mix of rain and snow is expected from the eastern Great Lakes to New England and down the Appalachian Mountain chain. Total snow accumulations could be as much as three inches in some areas. Precipitation will gradually diminish during the day as the storm moves into eastern Canada. Tonight, the circulation around the backside of the low will bring very gusty winds and much colder air to the northeastern quarter of the nation. The gusty winds and falling temperatures will create wind chill values below zero in some areas. Precipitation will be limited to wrap around snow, lake effect snow and mountain snow showers.
South:
The region will have mild temperatures and generally dry conditions. Precipitation will be limited to snow in the southern Appalachians.
Midwest:
The Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley will receive a wintery mix of rain and snow associated with a frontal system dropping out of Canada. The western Great Lakes will receive a few morning snow showers. The Central and southern Plains will be dry.
West:
In the Pacific Northwest, a series of disturbances will move ashore bringing mild temperatures and copious moisture - raising snow levels and creating a significant rain event. Rainfall totals of three to five inches are forecast along the Washington and Oregon coastal ranges and lower elevations of the Washington and Oregon Cascades. Heavy snow will be limited to the Northern Cascades, Northern Rockies and the Tetons.
Space Weather:

No space weather storms were observed for the past 24 hours. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are likely. Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level are expected.
