Homeland Security Threat Level: YELLOW (ELEVATED)

Significant National Weather

Northeast
Lake-effect snow showers will continue for western Pennsylvania and New York through today.
Temperatures will be in the 20âs from Pennsylvania north into New England.Â* The rest of the Mid-Atlantic region will be in the 30âs.Â*
West
Storm systems will continue to bring wet weather to the Northwest into the weekend.Â* The greatest impact will be to western Washington and Oregon.Â*
Energy and moisture moving inland across the Pacific Northwest to the Northern and Central Rockies will bring rain and snow.Â* No significant river flooding is expected through the weekend.Â*Â*
Midwest
The Upper Mississippi Valley will see snow showers with accumulations less than 2 inches.Â* A second system will develop over the Northern Plains and move across the Great Lakes bringing light to moderate snow accumulations from 2 to 4 inches late Friday through early Saturday.Â* The second system will bring bitter cold arctic air across the North Central U.S. on Saturday.
South
The central Gulf Coast to the Mid-Atlantic will be dry with temperatures warming to above freezing by Saturday.Â* Rain showers will move into central Texas today and Saturday.Â*(NOAAâs National Weather Service, the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center and various media sources)Â*
Hawaii Flooding Response

Heavy rains, summit snow, and strong winds began January 12, 2011, and Flash Flood Watches and Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for all the Hawaiian Islands. Localized flooding, mudslides, wind damage, road closures, and power outages have occurred on Oahu and Maui. Some shelters are open on Oahu and Maui. FEMA Region IX is operating at a Watch/Steady State and continues to monitor the situation. There are no requests for FEMA assistance.
Eastern US Winter Storm Response

All FEMA Regions, except Region VIII, remain at or have returned to a Watch/Steady State. Region Liaison Officers deployed to State EOCs have been released. There are no requests for FEMA assistance.
